After you find the defect, you log it in the defect tracker software. It has the status of new. Test lead checks the defect and if valid changes status to open and assigns to developer. Developer fixes the bug and marks as fixed. Developer can also reject or defer the bug fix to next release. After fixing defect, it is retested by tester and tester can close the defect.
