General Ledger is the final repository of all the journals from the various sub-ledgers. I have 3 yrs in GL including 3 end to end implemetation.

The implementation of GL can be divided into 3 broad categories
1. Setup --> oviously the 3C of 11i or 4C of R12. the multi-org structure the SOB/Ledger structure, consolidation method, CVR, Data access sets, defination access sets  etc

2. Journals related--> source , category, document sequence, batch control, budget control, journal approval, journal reversal, allocation, recurring journal, etc

3. Reporting --> FSG, reconciliation, legal reports, taxes, period closure activities like reconciliation/translation for period closure reports
