There are two types of device drivers. user space and kernel space drivers.usually all drivers associaed wih h/w are kernel space drivers.x-server is a user space driver through which we can develop applns wihout the knowledgee of the underlying h/w.anoher eg is gpm-console mouse service in linux.x-appln will give requests to X-server for geting the resources.so x-appln dont want to know abt the h/w.
