.profile is a startup program and it contains commands that are meant to be executed only once in a session.
The .profile lets
you customize your operating system to suit your requirements and this environment remains effective during the session.
If u make any changes in the file
you will have to logout and then login again to see the changes you have made.
You can also run the following command instead of logging out:

.profile is a hidden file and is seen vid -a option vid ls command :

ls -a
