A man has to get air-mail. He starts to go to airport on his motorbike. Plane comes early and the mail is sent by a horse-cart. The man meets the cart in the middle after half an hour. He takes the mail and returns back, by doing so, he saves twenty minutes. How early did the plane arrive?

man saved 20 min in total journey.i.e 10 min for onward journey.horse cort met man after 30 min of arrivel of plane. so plane came early by 40 min (30+10)

if speed of horse cart and bike is same then plane has arrived 1/2 hour early than its scheduled arrival at airport

Plane comes 20 min early than seduled because let assume plane's arrivel time is 2:40 and distance b/w home and airport is 40 min so, man starts at 2:00 and at 2:20 he reach at middle and plane arrive now at 2:30 he meet horce cart who has his airmail. Now, he come back at home at 3:00 but if plane will be on time than he will reach at airport at 2:40 and come back home at 3:20 so, this way he saves 20 min because of early arrival of plane

ans:10min:::assume  he started at 1:00,so at 1:30 he met cart .He returned home at 2:00.so it took him 1 hour for the total jorney.by doing this he saved 20 min.so the actual time if the plane is not late is 1 hour and 20 min.so the actual time of plane is at 1:40.The cart travelled a time of 10 min before it met him.so the plane is 10 min early.

Hi,

I think it should be 10 mins

(2:00pm) H------30mins------M-----A

(3:00pm)H------30mins------M-----A

so as it meets horse cart in middle and SAVES 20mins

so 20mins=2*(distance M to A requires time)

therefore M to A time=10mins

so it goes like

(2:00pm) H------30mins----->M(2:30pm)--->A(2:40pm)

(3:20pm)H<------30mins------M(2:50pm)<-----A(2:40pm)


that is we fulfill condition that is SAVES 20 mins.


As 1st case we reach home at 3:00pm


& 2st case we reach home at 3:20pm

Plane arrived 20 min early..
Assume speed of man is 60 km/hrs;
Distance between his house and airport is 40 km.
so he start at 1:40 and reach the airport at 2:20 so arrival time of plane is 2:20
After receiving his mail he returns to home at 3:00

Earlier case:
He left his home at 1:40
after 20 min means (after traveling 20 km) at 2:00 he is 20 km away from his home
same time plane arrives (means at 2:00) now distance between airport and man is 20 km.. so 10km is covered by man in 10 min and same by horse cart in 10 min and they meet at 2:10..and man return to home at 2:40 ((he saved 20 min)..
