Alpha testing is done by development team itself to make sure that the developed product is ready for testing. If they find somthing they fix it and make it available for testing to Testers who by be inhouse or third party.

I think this is understadable.

Thanks,

Ø      Alpha testing: Tests take place at the developer’s site.

Ø      Beta testing:  Tests take place at the customer’s site (under real world working conditions).

Alpha testing - testing of an application when development is nearing completion; minor design changes may still be made as a result of such testing. Typically done by end-users or others, not by programmers or testers. Beta testing - testing when development and testing are essentially completed and final bugs and problems need to be found before final release. Typically done by end-users or others, not by programmers or testers.

@arunjanghu,

I think you are having some confusion in this.

Alpha Test and Beta test both are performed by Customers, But Difference is Alpha is at Developers site and Beta is at Customer Site.

One good example for Beta test is: Microsoft released VISTA BETA version and took feedback from endusers and finally they launched LONGHORN and further versions.

Alpha testing:

It's a form of internal acceptance testing which will do before application goes to beta testing, this can be done by below people at comany area ( programmers area)

 -- Client
 -- Testing team

Beta Testing:

It can be tested after application passes from alpha testing, it can be done out side of the company ( out of programmers), can done by below people.

-- All public ( to know more bugs)
 -- Real time users
 -- Client
 --  End users

Alpha testing is the final in-house testing before the software is released to production.  The first phase of Alpha testing is typically performed by in-house developers. In the second stage, the software is tested by in-house Quality Assurance staff.

Beta testing is performed after Alpha testing is completed. In some cases, "beta versions" of the software are released and limited public tests are performed by a select group of prospective users.  At other times, "beta versions" are made available to the general public in order to gain as much feedback as possible.

Alpha testing - this testing comes under UAT(user acceptance testing). The team for this testing includes development team, testing team and customer. It is conducted at developers organisation with real like environment. This is suitable application.

Beta testing - this is also comes under UAT. This testing takes place model customer site. this is suitable for software product
