What is Usability testing in web testing?

Designers should always remember that the experience of the user in their website must
be as pleasant as possible. How the user interacts with the website is very important.
There may be cases when the user is someone very familiar with website browsing but
not necessarily a testing expert.
There are standards and guidelines for tests for usability. However, designers and/or
project managers should not rely on them too much since complying with these standards
doesn’t necessarily ensure that the site will meet the needs of the users, their tasks and
their work environments. Design guidelines must be set and they must be measurable so
that they can be easily incorporated into the tests.

Usability testing is typically performed by representative users of an application.  In a usability test, users try to perform typical tasks while company stakeholders  (project manager, marketing, development staff) observe and take notes.  Usability testing strives to answer the following questions:

1) Are there any drawbacks to using the application?
2) How intuitive is the application?
3) Will users prefer to use this application over alternative methods?

1. Test for navigation: Web site should be easy to use. Instructions should be provided clearly.
Main menu should be provided on each page. It should be consistent.
2. Content checking: Content should be meaningful. All the anchor text links should be working properly. Images should be placed properly with proper sizes. If your password is wrong, there should be a pop up window which will mention 'incorrect password' or something like that.
3. Other user information for user help: Like search option, sitemap, help files etc. S

Usability testing is a technique used in user-centered interaction design to evaluate a product by testing it on users. This can be seen as an irreplaceable usability practice, since it gives direct input on how real users use the system.[1] This is in contrast with usability inspection methods where experts use different methods to evaluate a user interface without involving users
