Assuming "performance problems" refers to individual job performance problems ...A successful team lead will have laid out clearly defined objectives for each member of his team and therefore held accountable for reaching those individual goals. Team leads should periodically review the level of effort put forth by each team member. This makes it easier to identify and efficiently rectify performance problems. Periodic feedback to members is crucial in ensuring that any concerns are promptly resolved.

Team lead normally tracks all the tasks in Gann chart. Here if he finds that some task is getting delayed and this is due to team member bad performance, then lead will immediately ask the next senior and good resource to help this resource for completion of work on time.

Team lead should be responsible to keep a track of each and every team member's performance, this would help the lead identify bottom performers. Mentoring and providing regular feedback would help the bottom performers work better and this would lead to better outputs.

If the assigned work is not being completed by one associate due to performance issue, lead should act immediately by helping the associate and assigning the same work to a group of people involving the associate who is unable to complete the work, to make sure that the work is being completed on time and not affecting the business however team leader should make sure the associate who was unable to perform, now understand what the work is about and how to handle it when it is assigned to him/her next time.

Team lead should be technically sound to under stand the effort required to complete a job. In case he finds any irregularity in the job delivery, or the progress is not in good pace. he should consult first with the job holder to understand the road blocker.

He needs to identify the symptoms and need to find the cure. In case situation can be handled with the help of simple help/guidance, provide him. In case delivery are near, and there is no time to train the member. Let him know the situation that you have to take this step and switch the responsibility with other. Once the situation is over, give him to understand where he lack and motivate him to get expertise.

For a team to be successful, the TL should be well versed with the Objectives and the performance yardstick should be clearly discussed with the team to set performance expectations. Ideally, performance should be tracked individually with regular feedback on performance and further expectations. The team leader should review the performance using several benchmarks. Policy should be to anticipate performance problem areas, work pro-actively with the team members to nip them-> anticipate, identify & rectify.
