Let x be no. of days John is present and he's absent for 60-x days

The equation becomes 7x-3(60-x)=170

on solving x=35 so John was present for 35 days

(Actual Question)John works for 60 days.for the day he is present he is paid 7.00/- and for the day he is absent he is paid 3.00/-per day.if he is paid 170/-how many days he is present?

(Modified Question)John works for 60 days.for the day he is present he is paid 7.00/- and for the day he is absent he was asked to pay 3.00/-per day.if he is paid 170/-how many days he is present?

(Actual Question)Let x be the days he is present

then (60 - x) is the days ,he is absent.

7x + 3(60 - x) = 170 => x = -2.5 (Not Possible).

(Modified Question)Let x be the days he is present

then (60 - x) is the days ,he is absent.

7x - 3(60 - x) = 170 => x = 35.

For the day he works, he get Rs.7/-

For the day he is absent, he loses Rs.3/-

Let us consider the number of days he worked as X

The number of days he was absent as 60-X

Atlast, he receives Rs.170

So, the equation will be, as follows

7X-3(60-X)=170

==>X=35

So, number of days he worked is 35 days

If asked to find out No. of maximum days John could be present

John is payed 170/-
So the No. of days John was present is 170/7=24+2
But we want the remainder to be a multiple of 3.. so we can take it as 23*7 and 3*3
ie.. 23 days present and three days absent.
