when minimum number of bugs were found and those are cosmic bugs then we can give assurance that the developed product is quality product.

The quality of the product can be ensure by look into the minimum bugs in a products as per the standard maintained by the organisation for the clients. that means if  a company is the six sigma oriented company then there should be atleast 3-4 bugs per millions.

what meena said is correct and also we have to see the standards.

There is a certain process how the quality of a software is guaranteed (ensured).  If is defined by the 'exit criteria'.  (What it means is, a QA Manager writes a document called Test Strategy.  This Test Strategy defines the 'exit criteria'.)
Exit Criteria gives the measurement, for example, in order to confirm the quality, how many critical defects, high defects, medium defect and low defect are acceptable?  The are all defined in the exit criteria.
(Normally in practice, for a quality software, there should no critical defects (0 critical), no high defect (0 high), no medium defect (0 medium) and may be 1 low defect)

Thanks
Prakash

Agreeing to Mr. Prasads comments, I would simply say that, Quality is conformance to all the stated & implied requirements of clients, adhering to quality standards of software engineering.

The no. of bugs would never be only used to determine good quality, but would only project bad quality, as your client would always ask for Bug free software. To make a software absolutely bug free you have to first find those bugs, which could only be found on usage of the software.

Here quality standards, provide you with tried tested & used methodologies of building a software application...

Plz correct me, & inform me on my mail id, if Im wrong somewhere, or have missed something!!!

PL  read the question carefully..Question is how do you ensure and not what is quality of product...

You ensure (software) product quality by having sound and mature s/w development process.... ie good requirements capture  ( change management included) backed by a effective s/w review/inspection mechanism, followed up by a good testing approach... these will ensure quality of product... the same arguments apply to any other engg disicpline.

thanks....

To ensure the quality of the product we have to start at the design, if the design is of best then we will have quality product.poor design poor quality. trobleshooting after desing to repair the bugs will be costy. "goog quality is cheap"

There is no fixed tools to ensure the quality of product. but for quality of product, we consider some keywords.i.e. *MTBF-->Mean time between failure *MTTR--> Mean time to repair *MTBR-->Mean time between repair

We can ensure quality of the product when product has minimum bugs which reasonably low inpact on product behaviour and developed within budget, delivered within time and can be maintained with low cost and also met all customer expectation.

We can ensure the quality of product when justification of the requirements of customer.

One more thing

A specific product is like by some body is  same thing is not like by some body hence there is nothing in the product every thing is perception of the custmor to make the quality product.

Doing a right thing , in a right way , in right manner , to get a right product  , in right time is said Quality Product ..

The quality of a product is ensured by what is defined by the "exit criteria"(what this means is that, when a Senior QA wirtes a test strategy. This test strategy defines the "exit cirteria")This" Exit criteria" is used to measure the quality of the product.
For example, in order to conform with the laid down plan, one will check, how many critical defects, high defects, medium defects and low defects are acceptable, in accordance  with what has been  stipulated in the test strategy.
Normally in real world, for a quality software, there should be (0) critical defect,(0) high defect,(0) medium defect and maybe 1 low defect.

The quality of the product is determind by

1. checking if it meets the requirment of the users.
2. If the bug rate falls within a certain point (specified in the test strategy).
