I think what Sathya is telling is "Defect gap" not the defect leakage. Defect leakage: When a defect is left undetected during integration testing and was found later during System testing is Defect leakage. We will say a defect was leaked in integration testing. defect can be leaked from System testing to UAT.

Defect leakage occurs at the Customer or the End user side after the application delivery. After the release of the application to the client, if the end user gets any type of defects by using that application then it is called as Defect leakage. This Defect Leakage is also called as Bug Leak.

Defect release: The software is released with the known defects is called Defect release

Defect leakage: The software is released with the unidentified defects is called defect leakage

Defect gap: The time gap b/w the defect is identified and fixed..

Defects leaks out from one level of testing(from testing phase to UAT or Production Phase...) to another level of testing is called defect leakage
