cost of x eggs=12pounds

cost of x+2 eggs=12pounds

144/(x+2)=(144/x)-1

solving x= -18 and 16

answer is 16 eggs

let x be the no of eggs originally bought be x  and y be the cost per egg
therefore

12=x*y
-x=12/y

no cost is reduced when 2 eggs are added

12=(x+2)*(y-1)= xy+2y -x-2
=12+2y-x-2
2y-x=2

try to get the factors for 12 ,they are 2 3 4 6

so the value should be x=4 y=3

so no of eggs originally bought should be 4..  With 16 i dont know how u gou

Eleven eggs, why because cost of one dozen eggs are one pound less. If the cost of one egg is 1 pound means, then he bought 12 eggs for 12 pounds, so here, again the shop keeper called him back and gave 2 eggs, cost of 1 dozen eggs are 1 pound less. so originally he bought 11 eggs only  and extra 2 eggs are given by the shop keeper.
