Penetration Testing is trying to force through an application through highly skilled methods

like:

Trying to Break into a database server

Trying to buffer overrun a program to gain control

Here we try to test whether the defensive mechanism incorporated in the code will come into effect for saving our day or not is the criteria

penetration testing is also known as security testing. This testing is used to check whether our application is secured from unauthorized people or not.In this testing,we consider the following.1. Authorization:- to check for valid user to enter the application,etc.2.Acess control:- to check whether specified pages are allowing for specified persons or not.3. Encryption/Decryption:- whether the communication is following encrypted or decrypted codes. I.e., to save from hackers etc.,

A penetration test is a method of evaluating the security of a computer system or network by simulating an attack by a cracker. The process involves an active analysis of the system for any weaknesses, technical flaws or vulnerabilities. This analysis is carried out from the position of a potential attacker, and can involve active exploitation of security vulnerabilities. Any security issues that are found will be presented to the system owner together with an assessment of their impact and often with a proposal for mitigation or a technical solution.
