A stroke refers to the full travel of the piston along the cylinder, in either direction.

#### Ankit Sharma

• Dec 26th, 2015

Stroke=the drift or displacement or a blow of a substance under gentle pressure. In case of IC engine, the piston inside the combustion cylinder displaces no. of times depending upon the gas cycles. ...

#### Motor Bike CC

How to calculate CC of Motor Bike?

#### victor

• Nov 1st, 2017

0.7854 x bore x bore x stroke x number of cylinders

#### Engineering on Softwares

• Mar 18th, 2016

CC of motor bike is depends upon the piston displacement inside the engine cylinder. Area between top dead center and bottom dead dead center is the actual CC of motor bike engine.

#### Thermodynamics

Why condenser is needed in steam power plant?

#### AMIT HAZARI

• Oct 22nd, 2017

To decrease the temperature and comes to its original temperature before its inlet in turbine. If its temperature is not decreased its efficiency gets low, so finally condenser is used to increase the efficiency.

#### AMIT HAZARI

• Oct 22nd, 2017

Thermodynamics is a process in which energy is transferred in the form of work and head in equilibrium condition.

•

#### Pressure v/s Stress

Though units for pressure and stress are same (i.e N/mm2)What is the difference between stress and pressure?

abhishank

• Member Since Jun-2009 | Jun 28th, 2009

Stress is restoring force developed in the body due to any tensile, compressive or any other force per unit area and on the other hand pressure is force applied on a body per unit area.

#### vinay kalgotra

• Aug 22nd, 2017

Brother as you said, but in some cases like in wall, eg. we are pressure applied on the wall it is also a scalar quantity.....so, how would we say pressure is only applied in case of fluid..

#### KAMAL SHARMA

• Jul 20th, 2017

1. Pressure applied on fluid (Gas & Liquid) where as stress applied on solid.
2. Pressure act perpendicular only where stress act perpendicular as well as inclined also.
3. Pressure is only +ve magnitude but stress have both +ve and -ve.
4. Pressure is external force and stress is internal force

#### Layout Inspection Quality Control

Why we do Layout Inspection of any product?

#### Dilip

• Aug 22nd, 2017

To efficiently utilize space without any wastage.

#### Kapil

• May 28th, 2017

We do layout inspection to ensure our product is as per customer requirement or not.

The role of mechanical Engg. in industry is to working your idea and give best to your in industry and main part is take maintenance knowledge and learning manufacturing process.

#### neeraj

• Jul 9th, 2017

I think the role of mechanical engineer is to take the product from an idea to the finished goods.

•

#### Common Heat Exchanger

Which type of heat exchangers are commonly used:
a. Counter current flow
b. Parrell current flow
c. Cross flow
d. All the above

#### Aitazaz

• Aug 8th, 2017

Counter current is mainly used in refineries to increase heat exchange but if we will talk about industrial scale like cooling towers then cross flow has the major importance.

#### Lalith

• Apr 9th, 2017

Counter Flow H.E. are mostly used. Because:
1. More heat exchange, with minimum medium of exchanger.
2. Less material requirement for production.
3. Can be utilized for small exchange purpose to High as required.

#### Steel and Cast Iron Heat Treatment

Why steels are heat treatable and why not cast irons? If yes why?

#### akshat srivastava

• Aug 8th, 2017

Cast iron is not heat treated because it becomes brittle.

#### hvdwaard

• Feb 16th, 2016

Steel is an Iron/Carbon Alloy for arguments sake. So the carbon is fully absorbed within the Iron. The carbon and iron re-settle in a various atomic micro-structures when heated and cooled down quickly...

Refrigerator is confined to small enclosure, it just maintains the temperature below the room temperature whereas air conditioner is confined to room. It can be used to cool the air, heat, humidify, dehumidify etc.

#### H V VENKATESH

• Jul 13th, 2017

Refrigeration: is referred to cooling of required space using various processes. Most of the refrigeration involves Vapor Compression Refrigeration Process which involves following steps which i...

•

#### What is the difference between pinion and gear

• Jun 11th, 2017

Gear is larger diameter where as pinion is smaller diameter & gear is driver and pinion is driven element.

#### MAHESH YERRABATHULA

• Feb 22nd, 2017

Pinion is smaller in diameter whereas gear has larger diameter. If we give power to the pinion and treat it as driver when both are engaged then speed will be reduced.

#### Fluid Mechanics Crane Rope Tension

A piece of concrete has density of 2300 kg/m3 and is 400 x 600 x 3000mm thick. It is lowered into the sea by a crane for an underwater construction project. Determine the tension in the rope of the crane

(a) When the concrete is suspended in the air
(b) When the top is 1.5m above water,
(c) When the top is just below water, and
(d) When the top is 2m below water....

#### eiddy

• Jun 1st, 2017

a) The tension force equals the weight of the concrete = d*v*g (density, volume and acceleration of gravity respectively). b) Approximately the same result. c) Here there is an affective buoyancy fo...

•

#### Centrifugal pump

What happens when we close the valve in discharge line while the pump still working?

#### eiddy

• Jun 1st, 2017

Water hammer phenomena takes place due to the pressure rise.
Closing the valve suddenly causes revers flow (reaction flow) may damage the pump or elbows if exist.

#### pawan kumar singh

• Nov 1st, 2016

When the discharge valve is closed in the running condition of a pump then the friction between pump impeller and liquid generates heat which increases continue and hence the fluid gets vaporized which causes problems of cavitation.

•

#### Production and Manufacturing

What is the difference between Production and Manufacturing

#### Naveen kumar

• May 12th, 2017

Manufacturing is the process of converting the raw materials into desired shape.
