In Si engine air and fuel mixture is injected during intake stroke, qnd combustion takes place, but in Ci engine only fresh compressed air is pushed into the chamber, and fuel is introduced for combustion during intake stroke.due to the different fuel types, and different operating temperatures, different technology is used to finally push the crank and finally move the vehicle

Because both the engines use different fuels, and both the fuels have different properties eg: Flash point, fire point, auto ignition temperature and many more so a designer considers the properties of which kind of fuel is been used in engine.

Because the calorific value of petrol is higher than the calorific value of diesel. Temperature of compressed air itself is sufficient to burn the diesel. However diesel engine has high compression ratio than petrol engine.Fuel injection system is costly. That is why we are using different technology in SI & CI Engine.

In SI engine we use spark plug for ignition but in CI engine fuel get ignited by cylinder temp. So cause of different type of fuel and different type of fuel injection in cylinder we have to use different technology to start both type of engine.

Because diesel ignite by air pressure in cylinder and also low calorific value so we cannot use spark pluge in the CI Engine
