Of course, there are different methods to recover the power wasted in rotor and that is done by using Scherbius Drive or Kramers Drive where the rotor terminals are connected to a rectifier and again inverted to ac at 50 Hz so as to supply the grid. Yes, a combination of rectifier & inverter is used for this purpose and dual converters are also used when bidirectional flow of power is required.
