An "oil seal" is a application, where the "seal" could be any kind of device. Such as: a gasket made from paper, rubber, composite materials,and sometimes an oring.

An oring is a specific kind of part - which is most often used to seal something.

"O" ring are used to prevent the leakage of oil in between two mating parts, while oil seal is used mainly on shaft to prevent the leakage of lubricants.

Seal ring provide no gap between combustion chamber and crank case whereas o-ring selves as a lubrication to piston wall and piston.
