Here are a few test cases for adding a buddy to an Instant Messaging contact list:

1) Add contact using only instant message address
2) Add contact using mobile device number
3) Add contact and place under new category
4) Add contact by searching through an email contact list (like hotmail.com)
5) Add contact by searching through a web service contact list (like myspace.com)
6) Begin to add contact and abort the process
7) Attempt to add contact whose IM address can't be found
8) Attempt to add contact with incorrect IM address format
9) Attempt to add contact with an incorrect mobile device number
10) Attempt to add contact who is already in buddy list
11) Attempt to add contact when potential buddy does not accept
12) Attempt to add contact by entering alpha characters for mobile device number
