hi,

test plan is a document which describes a mangerial and technical approach to test a software or a application

It includes so many stages in it..usually this is designed by  Test team lead. Thats why it is caleed as high-level documentation.

test plan is a documatation. which is designed by a test lead or other supiriors for testing entier project in a proper channel.

Test Planning:  Test planning is a strategy document that describes overall approach of testing of an application.

 

Contents of test plan are

 

  • Test strategy/Test scope/test objective
  • What to test what not to test
  • Scheduling
  • Resource planning
  • Defect metrics description
  • Definition of terminology
  • Areas to be automated
  • Evolution of automation tools
  • Risks and Assumptions  

and without req docs no one can't able to write a test plan and it's not a simple letter to send..

It is a high level document prepared by the test lead which describes the test engineer, How to test, Who to test, wht to test and when to test.
