We can say that around 6 to 8 bugs per day for the first week and 3 to 5 in the second week and there after it reduced to 1 or 2 bugs per week

Well this can't be identified that a software release contains exactly a specified number of bugs.but you can give your past experiences like i reported 80 number of bugs for first 8 weeks and then this number is reduced to only 30-40 for next 4 weeks and after some iterations releases contains only 10 bugs per week that's what I have done there are some approximation algorithms for identifying the approximate number of bugs in a release.

You can say that when we test project first time there are 130 bug total u found after that at second revision of testing u get 50 bug fix & remaining are open or thier are some new bug generated because of fixing of old bug.& so on when we deploy our project at that time we achiev our satifactory level that means thier is no serious bug in project that afects system or software.

I think no one can say exactly how many bugs he/she found. Actually if really u have worked on a project then tell the truth as per your experience. Trust me you will selected.ya, number of bugs found are more in earlier stages which decreases with time. depending on project they may increase also.

Hi This can be answered perfectly if and only if you are a real time guy.. Pls don't mind .. you seems you are not a real time guy.. so you can say the bugs count as any.. but at the same time you can consider your project also.. I mean if your project is a small project and completed with in 6 months but you said the bug list as 1000 above then some times it would be a problem.. For example our project running from 2 years.. our BTS reached now 2500+.. I think u got my point..srinivasulu.B

Srinivasulub1981 , you are very right. Bug no. Depends on your project size. When r u involved with it and one last thing. It is not important 'How many bugs you have reported?', but the imp thing is that how many bug you got fixed.

As said above, you can not exactly say the number of bugs that an application has. Apart from that it also depends on various factors like...

complexity of the application

Skill level of the developers involved in that

Amount of rework involved in the project

level of standards in development maintained and checking done at the coding level etc.,

If your company is product based, then the chances are that you can predict the number of bugs to a certain extent.

If your company is project based, then you will be developing it based on the client requirements. Here prediction is difficult.

We can not predict the exact number of bugs because the system will never be stable exact number of bugs can only be predicted if there is no more requirements in the project and the project is fully stable but stil the situation is unpredictable

but it can be concluded that  if the system is stable then at least system is stable upto 75 %

Really?

I think the interviewer was checking to see if you really possess testing experience. I would say I cannot disclose such information as its confidential info. But yes, in the beginning there were many bugs and as we progressed towards UAT, the quality was very good. Please be mindful of disclosing such data. Its all constitutes confidential company data.

It is very common question that Interviewer can ask..before answer to this question we should clarify what type of defects that interviewer asking? defects can be product defects and process defects then we can say the approx figure of the defects raised during project execution and it all depends on the gaps which leads to defects.

When we are working on new functionality of the application, obviously we will get more defects. We can't say particularly these many numbers, that depends on developers and complexity of the project, who worked on that modules all should be considered. If the developers doesn't work well we will find out more defects. When we working on Regression scripts, number of defects will be decreased.
