hello friend logic is very simple in the above problem that is the man wasted 10 minutes while puncturingif he dont waste that time he will reach 15 minutes late onlythat means he saVED 15 minutes(after puncture) journey in 10 minutes(tire puncture) that is in that 10 minutes he should covers the distance of 7.5 milesnow use thisafter puncture15miles in-------------------------30 min7.5miles in------------------------15 minbefore puncture he covers that 7.5 miles in 10 minutes7.5 miles in-------------------------------10minutes ??miles in-------------------------------60minutesnow u will get 45 milesthat is in 2 hours and 10 minutes he travelled with speed of 45=====97.5 miles before puncturingafter puncturing he travelled the distance of 45 minutes in that he covers 22.5 milesnow total equal to 120 mileshere you should remember one thing that aftrer puncturing he travels only 1 hourwhy because in the problem he given that 30miles/hour you should take it as 1 hour

Hi Mr.Sudheer.....

I'm a fresher 2005 passed out. I also tried this question....anyways i didnot get the answer as accurate as ur's....

let the distance travelled in first two hours be x1 and after that be x2....

now....i got this formula from R.S.Agarwal...

difference in speed(a)/present speed*60=the time wasted

=>(a/30)*60=10=>a=5miles/hr

so the speed with which the man drove the car for first x1 miles might be either 30-5=25 or 30+5=35

so the distance covered for first 2 hrs with those speeds will be either 50 or 70 resp.

then ((x1+30)/s1)-(x2/s2)=1/4+1/2//( 30min+15min)//

if we assume x1=50 then we get total distance=124miles

if we assume x1=70 then we get total distance=130miles.

Anyways this is not a correct procedure....if u dont mind could u plz clear my doubts if at all i have any....Mr.Sudheer...

by the way....My original name is Kiranmai and not Anusha.....have a nice day friend.....Bye

hi sudhir

the man saved 15 min journey in 10 min.

means(1 hr -30 miles so 15 min 7.5miles) 7.5 miles in 10 min,mean speed of 45 mies/hr

so he covered 2 hrs and 10 min with the same speed 45 mileshr, then puncture so rest of journey in 30 miles per hour but for what time?( u say its 45 minutes howz it 45?)

as per my undrstnding

I think sudhir took total 3 hrs journey 2hs b4 puncture  1 hr aftr puncture, since he saved 15 min journey from the 1 hr aftr puncture in 10 min travelling 45 miles hr so u took 60-15 ie 45 min aftr puncture which he ran with 30 mileshr.

so distance covered in 2hrs 10 min with45 mileshr + distance covered in 45 min with 30 mileshr===120//

but till now I don't get why u took 1hr after puncture?????????
