A hot key is a key or a combination of keys on a computer keyboard when pressed performs a task. The specific task performed by a particular hot key varies by operating system or application. However, there are commonly-used hot keys. For example, pressing the F1 key in any application running Windows usually brings up a help menu. The "Alt + F4" combination results in closing the current application or, if no application is open, shutting down Windows.

hi,

I believe hot keys are butonns with symbol www, Email, search and favorites...as padma told f1 and alt +f4 these are all shortcut keys. Hot keys are used to open an application or proggram by pressing the buttons as mentioned above.......the keys which i have mentioned above not only used to open the webpage, search etc it can be modified to open other applications too.

HotKeys gives one fast and easy access to a lot of common elements through keyboard shortcuts. It can be activated by pressing alt.One can easily view these assigned hotkeys in WINXP as whenevr one press Alt key a bar comes under  various menus options.....File,edit.....so in file menu F is hot key here .

Hot keys are an alternate way of invoking a software command through keyboard input.  Hot keys are associated with operating systems and various applications.  Hot keys are either hard-coded into an application or they can be defined by the user.
