What are advantages and disadvantages of using ad-hoc networks?

The advantage is that it sets up route in real time (eg bluetooth), the disadvantage is that there is a lot of security problems encountered. (eg tracing the routes and adversaries can act as legitimate node and can easily acquire the data. This needs many secured protocols to be used.
