Involving Testing Personnel In Project Planning Stage

Hi Guys
Recently I faced few interviews where they keep asking me this question, how do you justify Involvement of testing team in initial project planning stages OR Do you think this helps tester in any way while spending time on this .

Testing team should also include from the inital phase of the project, for ex:, planning stage. This gives them a good idea about the project and it helps them in writing test cases. At the planning stage, the test manager/lead can create high-level system test plan HLSTP according to the specifications and later on based on this testers can write test cases
