According to double revolving theory net torque produce in single phase induction motor is 0. So we use a capacitor this capacitor creates phase difference because of leading component of current in one coil which result in obtaining torque. Value of capacitor is adjusted on such a way that it produces high starting torque.

single phase induction motor is not the self starting so, to make it self start we can use capacitor & capacitor also provides high starting torque.

basically for three phase induction motor, rotation of rotor is due to the RMF produced due to the alternating three phase current(with certain phase difference) flowing in the stator conductors...bt for the single phase induction motor there will be only one phase hence no phase difference...so the Rmf can be obtained using the capacitors and by using auxiliary switches.

because there is two winding 1 is starting and another is running winding, so that the capacitor is connected to starting winding and to makes its self starting.

no inductive single phase motor can start without a capacitor . capacitor is used for 1.induct an other phase for motor which is 90 deg. to original phase 2.initiate a torque to start up motor 3. control speed & direction of rotation

Actually, 1 phase induction motor is not a self starting, the net torque in 1 phase motor is zero. By connecting capacitor at supply side(I.e stator winding), required torque can obtained and motor get started
