Smart identification is one of the important feature provided by qtp it helps QTP to identify objects of AUT when Mandatory , Assestive and ordinal identifier get fails to identify objects of AUT , it uses Basic filter property of objects and optional filter property of the object of AUT . You can check it through navigation Tools > Object Identification > Click on Configure button Smart identification ...

Typically,if even one of the on-screen properties doesn't match with the recorded properties the script fails.
In smart identification, QTP does not give an error if the property value does not match but it uses base filter and optional filter properties to uniquely identify the object.

In smart identification, if the property value does not match the script doesn't fail ,it proceeds to compare ahead to the next property.

Smart identification can be enabled in the object identification dialog box.
