actually it will better understood by animation or actual model in which driving shaft torque/power are transmitted to driven shaft (wheel shaft) (note:both wheel have different shaft it has no direct connection with each other) by intermittent gear which are placed at 90 degree from driving gear and rigidly attached with driving gear but it will able to rotate in  their own axis so when we are taking turn rotation of 1 wheel be slow and other be fast at this condition intermittent gear are compensate the motion of both wheel

A vehicle's wheels rotate at different speeds, mainly when turning corners. The differential is designed to drive a pair of wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds.
without differential, the result is the inner wheel spinning and/or the outer wheel dragging, and this results in difficult and unpredictable handling, damage to tires and roads, and strain on (or possible failure of) the driven train.
