The difference is in the raw material. In production, the raw material is not procured from outside, the company owns it and after processing and make the final product. But in Manufacturing, the company procures the raw material from outside, and then makes the final product. manufacturing is a process of converting raw material in to finished product by using various processes, machines and energy.it is a narrow term. production is a process of converting inputs in to outputs.it is a broder term. every type of manufacturing is production but every production is not a manufacturing. exa- making of a turbine by various processes is manufacturing assemble the various parts to make a engine is production not manufacturing.

Production engineering is a complete cycle as it involves procurement of raw material, storing that raw material as inventory, conversion of raw into semi finished or finished goods, dispatching, sales forecasting etc. but manufacturing is a part of production engineering which just involves in the value addition of raw materials (conversion of raw into semi finished or finished goods).

Production is the process of converting input into output using the required resources sourced internally and to ensure quality outcome in converting input resources into output product.
While on the other hand, manufacturing is referred to as the transformation of raw materials sourced externally into finished product through many regorous processes which are solely depends on machine functions and human energy.
Example: To make car parts is an example of manufacturing while to assemble those parts to build a vehicle is production.

I am a student who are doing a study about how to accelerate UK manufacturing growth, but right we have problem to define the manufacturing sector, what my question is: Does manufacturing sector including design & research and after-sale service? or does company like International Group can be count as manufacturing company. Looking forward for your feedback, cause this is really important for our study, we are not 100% for sure which area should be included in manufacturing sector in order to research UK manufacturing growth. Cause we really want to analysis companies in UK in terms of design-oriented, make-oriented and service-oriented, to finally decide which part of companies make most contribution inside manufacturing growth, and then identify UK the enablers and inhibitors for UK manufacturing growth. Thanks a million.
