What is an Alert ?

 An  alert  is  window that appears in the middle of the screen overlaying a portion of the current display.

Alert is a modal window that displays a warning message on some application that might have unexpected consequences.
3 types of alerts: STOP, CAUTION, NOTE.
You can even create your own custom alert that displays in response to that specific event
