Why is the . not included in the path?

Because . denotes the hidden files in the Unix environment.it is treated as the property of the file name and is not a part of the path.

Wrong...the dot is not supposed to be in your path because when you enter a command, your environment i.e. your path will try and execute from your pwd which is never a good thing.

Yes, . means current working directory and having current directory into your path could create problem like.. I can have 'ls' command written in current directory to delete all the files
