A bag with 100 kgs potatoes have 99% water. It is kept in the open under the sunlight. After sometime, little amount of water got evaporated and reduced to 98%. What is the weight now ?

dear but I get 98.02 coz we have to add patato 1 KG weight in 97.02

coz  patato not going to evaporated in sunlight

Let me give the working part of it.

99% 100kgs of potatoes is 99kgs. Remaining 1kg potato.

then 98% of 99% of water out of 100kgs of potatoes comes to 97.02kgs

Now adding the Kg of potato we get the

final result 98.02 kgs of potatoes.

ans:-50kg

weight of solid potato mean excluding water remain same ie=

100-100*99/100=1kg

2nd case

weight of potato+weight of water=total weight

1+weight of water=total weight

1+98/100(total weight)=total weight

again total weight=1+weight of water

take weight of water=w     total weight=1+w

so eq become

1+98/100(1+w)=1+w

1=2/100(1+w)

100=2+2w

2w=98

w=49

total weight=1+w=1+49=50 (ans)

(check prev case with same eq

1+(1+w)99/100=1+w

1=1/100(1+w)

100=1+w

w=99 (so it was )=quantity of water in previous case

            100%=99%water+1%water

            100kg=99kg+1kg

                  Now in 99% of water 1% is evaporated so,

                              water=98*99/100=97.02kgs

                         new weight=97.02kg+1kg

                                                =98.02kg

I got 50 kgs as sonali,

come to your ans you got 98.02kgs= water + potato

In question given that some amount of water is evaporated and left is 98% of water means 2% of potato's i.e 1kg is 2%

cross verify your ans like this  if 1 represents 2%.

Is 97.02 becomes 98%? No way

 100kgs      = 99% water

 100            = 99/100

 100 * 100  = 99

 10000         = 99

 10000-1      = 99-1
 
 9999           = 98

 99.99 *100 = 98

 99.99          = 98/100

 99.99kgs     = 98%

 so, now the weight is 99.99 kgs.

The Answer is 50 Kgs.


Solution : 
Before Evaporation 
99% 100kgs is 99kgs this is the weight of water. Remaining 1kg potato.

After Evaporation
as potatoes are not going to evaporate in sunlight the weight remains same as 1 Kg
Now we need to find out the ammount of Water which will be 98 % of total weight.

So 50Kgs of total weight will have 98% water (i.e. 49 Kgs) and hence Potatoes weight remains same as 1 Kg

100 Kg Potato = 1kg + 99kg water (given in question itsellf)
Let Total New weight = x kgs
hence, x = 1kg + (98/100)x (since matter is not going to evaporate, so potato weight will be still 1 kg as above)
therefore.. 0.02x = 1
x= 1/0.02
x= 100/2 = 50kg
