hi

After completion of test cases design for responsible modules, test engrs are reporting that document to test lead for completness and correctness checking. In this review test lead fallows coverage analysis. that are

-> business requirements based coverage

-> use case based coverage

-> data model based coverage

-> user interface based coverage

->test responsible matrix based coverage

   At the end of this review Test lead prepare requirements tracebility matrix . It is also known as requirements validation matrix and this matrix defines mapping between test cases and client requirements.

In a software development process, the traceability matrix is a table that correlates the high-level requirements (sometimes known as Marketing Requirements) and detailed requirements of the software product to the matching parts of high-level design, detailed Design, test plan (a.k.a. Test Outline), and test cases. It can also be used between any two documents that require a many to many relationship to determine completeness.

In simple terms it's mapping between Req in FS and the Testcases written

Traceability matrix is a document which keeps track of the test objectives and test cases identified for each of the listed requirement. Each requirement has to be assigned a unique id which can be in turn used to track test objective and identified test case for the same. Each test case id will be unique, and the repeated requirements if any will be given unique id but the test cases identified against these requirements will be mapped to other test cases which are serving the same purpose. For this special purpose the traceability matrix can include one more column with name 'test case covered in req' which will contain test case id of the test case which is covering the same objective as the repeated requirement.

Traceability matrix is a matrix which is used to keep track of the requirements. Exact requirements from the requirement doc given by the client are copied in this matrix. These requirements are assigned a unique number and the remark as testable or not. Against each testable requirement test objective and test case is identified. It is highly possible that for one req there could be multiple test objectives and test cases. For each of the test objective and test case unique number is assigned. Number flow is usually like
Requirement Id >> test obj Id>> test case id.

This matrix is generally prepared by testers who is going to design test cases for the requirements. Some times Req and test objectives are prepared by business analyst and the tester adds test case names against each of the objectives.
