Testing is basically quality control. It's a subset of quality assurance. Quality assurance is a policy that make sure the organization delivers its services to it's clients with preaccepted standards.

Quality assurance involves the entire software development process and testing involves operation of a system or application to evaluate the results under certain conditions. QA is oriented to prevention and Testing is oriented to detection.

we have some standards to be followed by any organisation in any corporation.for example we have some customs and principles in our personal life.so if we exceed those we will be caught by police.in the same way these standards.so for a system to be implemented or tested we have standards like the testing phase to be performed after the design phase like that.so if we dont follow there might be loss to the organisation in terms of cost or resources or something like that which may result in bad product or system.so in order to avoid those we go for quality assurance standards.hope u understood dear.

QA is a total project some levels and customer satisfaction.

Quality Assurance: All those planned or systematic actions necessary to provide adequate confidence that a product or service is of the type and quality needed and expected by the customer.

Testing:

  • The process of exercising software to verify that it satisfies specified requirements and to detect errors.
  • The process of analyzing a software item to detect the differences between existing and required conditions (that is, bugs), and to evaluate the features of the software item (Ref. IEEE Std 829).
  • The process of operating a system or component under specified conditions, observing or recording the results, and making an evaluation of some aspect of the system or component

Quality assurance people will ensure that the projects/teams are following the proper processes as per the company policies. Like, maintaining proper documents, reports, defect reports etc .. If the projects/teams are not following the process, they will make sure that they will follow the process to achieve quality.

Testing is a process of finding defects to make the application bug free and to improve the quality. Testing will comes under Quality control. We are the people to control  the quality, not to ensure the quality of the product.
