there are 2 types of testing :-

static & dynamic testing.

Static testing is also called as verification,where we verify the requirement,design doc.the actual testing of s/w comes under dynamic testing.

Dynamic testing is also called as Validation..tester starts testing (actual exection)of s/w in dynamic testing.
