Infosys Interview Preparation tips by Kiran

Many of you asked me how to prepare for the exam. So, I am writing this mail.
Actually when I started preparing for this exam, I browsed through mails in chetana group and I found one mail from Nitya Monica. I would like to personally thank her for writing such a wonderful mail.

I am again writing the same mail for all of those who are preparing for infosys.

Infosys gives atleast 10days time between the written test and when we get the call for written test.
I got call for written test in the first week of june and my test was on june 19th. So I had 10-11days to prepare.

first two days shakunthala devis more puzzles. some 300 questions are there i believe. i finished all the 200 questions in 2 days. second 2 days shakunthala devi's next book. some 150 questions .i finished all the 150 questions. then for the next 3 days george summers book. i was much worried because i wasnt able to solve even a single question. so i juz read the question , understood the question, and then straight i went to the solution. i
completed his book in three days. then some old question papers from internet. then in the remaining three days i revised the 3 books so that i remembered how to solve the puzzles. by doing this revision i was able to solve the questions in the old infy papers.

Some people mailed me that they just have 2 days left. I suggest them to just go through this years infosys question papers and just go through old question papers.

In my next mail I will tell you how to go about with infosys interview.

All the best to all of you
bye bye
kiran

A man was on his way to a marriage in a car with a constant speed. After 2 hours one of the tier is punctured and it took 10 minutes to replace it. After that they traveled with a speed of 30 miles/hr and reached the marriage 30 minutes late to the scheduled time. The driver told that they would be late by 15 minutes only if the 10 minutes was not waste. Find the distance between the two town? everyone just gives the answer that its 120 miles......could someone give me the approach......SOLUTION----------------If there was no flat tire, then they would have been 20 min (30 -10) late.But according to the problem, they are only 15 min late. This means thatthey were travelling for that 10 min instead of being stopped. They shouldhave been travelling at a speed > 30 mph initially. So the question is :At what speed the car was travelling initially before getting a flat tire ?The car saved 5 minutes by not stopping (travelling at >30mph) or it lost 5 minutes by travelling at 30mph during the stoppage. In 5 minutes it would have travelled 2 1/2 miles. So the initial speed of the car is :30 + (2.5/(1/6)) = 45mph.Now the car travelled for 2 hrs initially prior to puncture. So the distancetravelled D1= 45 X 2 = 90miles.The other part of the journey was covered with speed = 30 mph.By travelling the rest of the journey at 30mph (instead of 45mph) , the car lost 20 minutes or 30 X (20/60) = 10 miles. To create 10 mile lag, time taken by this part of the journey should be = 20/60 + 10/(45-30) = 1 hour.Distance travelled D2 = 30 X 1 = 30 miles.************************************************************So total distance D = D1 + D2 = 90 + 30 = 120 miles************************************************************Hope this helps.

Regarding the problem:

A man was on his way to a marriage in a car with a constant speed. After 2 hours one of the tier is punctured and it took 10 minutes to replace it. After that they traveled with a speed of 30 miles/hr and reached the marriage 30 minutes late to the scheduled time. The driver told that they would be late by 15 minutes only if the 10 minutes was not waste.
Find the distance between the two town?

This is my approach to this problem:>

Initially the the car is travelling for 2 hours and 10 minutes delay due to flat tire. the rest of the distance is covered with the speed of 30 miles/hour, but they are late by 1/2 an hour.

Total distance = d1 + d2, v2 = speed with which d2 is travelled if the car is not punctured.

Equation 1:  2 + (10 minutes delay) + d2/30 = t0 + ( 1/2 an hour late)

                 2 + 1/6 + d2/30 = t0 + 1/2  -----------> 1

When the car is not punctured the car would have travelled with the same speed.

Equation 2:  2 + d2/V2 = t0 + ( 15 minutes delay )       where v2 = d1/2

                 2 + 2d2/d1 = t0 + 1/4        -------------> 2

Sub 2 from 1 : 1/6 + d2/30 - 2d2/d1 = 1/4

                    5d1 + 120d2 = 2d1d2

Let d2 = 5 :    5d1 = 120*5

                      d1 = 120

Therefore the total distance will be 125 miles ( this is one of the answers )

we can substitute from 3 to 59 for d2 and can find many solutions for this problem.
