None of the above. I get 10.67 km/h.The passenger train moves 64 km in 4 hours until it catches the freight train. If the freight train has a 2 hour head start, it moves 64 km in 6 hours, which is an average speed of 10.67 km/hLook at the question. If the passenger train is traveling at 16km/h and it catches the freight train, it must be moving faster.... but all the answers say the freight train is moving faster which cannot be correct.I think there's a type-o in this question

Let the speed of the freight train be x km/hr

speed of the passenger train is 16 km/hr.................. (given)

Now the passenger train overtakes the freight train after 4 hrs, so the freight train by this time would have travelled for 6 hrs(2hrs+4hrs).since we know that passenger train starts after 2hrs.

therefore distance travelled by freight train in 6hrs = distance travelled by passenger train in 4hrs( as they meet)

x*6=16*4
6x=64

x=10.67 km/hr

therefore the speed of freight train is 10.67 km/hr

To Get the valid answer from the options  the passenger train speed should be 60 kmph instead of 16kmph. than by calculating we get the frieght train speed as 40 kmph.

So option B is correct answer

yes all the above options are wrong...because if the freight train avg speed is more than pass train than it won't be possible that pass train over take freight train..

Let the Distance Covered by Freight train = Passenger Train = D kms
Speed of Passenger Train = 60 km/hr
Time taken by Passenger Train to Travel distance D = 4 Hrs
Time taken by Freight Train to Travel Distance D = ( 4 + 2 ) = 6 Hrs
Distance = Speed × Time
Distance Freight = Speed Freight × Time Freight ........ (i)
Distance Passenger = Speed Passenger × Time Passenger ........ (ii)
Distance Freight = Distance Passenger
⇒ Speed Freight × Time Freight = Speed Passenger × Time Passenger
⇒ Speed Freight × 6 = 60 × 4
⇒ Speed Freight = 40 km/hr

Since,Distance is same .
So, we can write as
D=S1*T1
D=S2*T2
S1*T1=S2*T2
2*x=16*(2+4)
2x=16*6
x=58.

x-16*6=16*4
6x-96=64
x=160/4
