Displacement pump is a mechanical pump which is converted to mechanical energy to hydraulic energy.

Centrifugal pump is a mechanical device which is converted to mechanical energy to kinetic energy or pressure energy.

In displacement pumps the fluid is confined in the space i.e. within the working boundary of the pump whereas in case of the centrifugal pumps the is not confined within the boundary instead its supplied uniformly and steadily to get the required motion.
