How will you check if router goes down?

As a Engg, in client place router goes down & client do not know anything about it, how will you check it & how you will make it up (by siting in your office)? What are all precheck you will do in client place & what cmd you will use to check it?

Every router has a LED to indicate whether the connection to the internet is healthy/not.
If the connection is healthy i.e. smooth n going.... then the LED glows Green
If the connection is unhealthy i.e. the router goes down / there is some disruption in the n/w path.. then the LED glows Amber (Yellowish Orange)

by connecting console cable to pc and using Hyper terminal logging in router ,check the logs other wise the router gets restart often.

First try to ping the router from the firwewall or from the inside network and if have access try to log in.
Check the ISP connectivity issue.
Use "sh version" command to check the router up or down. Do "sh up int brief" to check the interface and do a router restart. Check if it came up

If the router goes down there is few check we have to follow at the client end assisting the tech.
1. Check the power of the router where it is connected to. Check if the router is connected properly, if it is getting an adequate power.
2. Status of the color light Amber/Green.
3. If still not able to connect then try logging through OOB (Out-of Band). A modem that is connected to the router at least to check the connectivity and to verify basic configuration on the router.
Note: If dialing to the modem number hear a loud beep sound that shows that there is an issue if not then only ring.
Connecting through a modem is quite slow so have patience.
