What is the difference between a UNC and drive mapping?

Basically UNC stands for Universal naming convention / Uniform Naming convention and it specifies a common syntax to describe the location of a Network resource such as shared file , Directory or printer where as Drive mapping is the way by which Windows and OS/2 associate a local Drive letter from A- Z for a shared storage.
