Let  assume clerk age as =  X
then Arthur age will be = 5x
also Haily age will be same =5x

Now Clerk age becomes 8(5x)=40x
Sum of ther ages = 5x+5x=100
therfore x=10
That is clerk age is 10

Let the present age of Hailey =x

present age of Arthur =y
present age of Clark=z
with first condition: y+(x-y)=5y{where (x-y) stands for the difference in present and past}
with second condition: z+(x-y)=8y
third equation: x+y+Z=100
solving all three we get Arthur age as 10 yrs.

Let Age of Haley is = H, Arthur is = A, Clarke =C
A+H =100   ---------------(1)
H=5C  ---------------------(2)
(H-A) + C = 8A ----------- (3)

Solving them gives    H = 1500/17   , A = 200/17,   C = 200/17

Let present age of arthur, hailey and clarke be x, yand z yrs
x+y=100
after (y-x)yrs arthurs age is 5z and clarkes age is 8x
x+(y-x)=5z and z+(y-x)=8x
hence
x+(100-2x)=5z and z+(100-2x)=8x
x+5z=100 and 10x-z=100
x/z=2/3
z=300/17
clarkes present age is 300/17
this solution satisfies the given conditions
(in the question wen the fathers age is 5 times sons present age, sons age is 8 times fathers present age which is illogical)
it may be clarke is 8 years older than arthurs present age

Let the present ages of Arthur, Hailey and Clarke be A,H and C respectively.
When Arthur is as old as Hailey..... A + ( H - A ) = 5C ............. (1)
By then ( During the same H - A years )
C + ( H - A ) = A + 8A ...........(2)
H + A = 100
From ....(1)
H = 5C
In...(2),
C + ( 5C - A ) = 9A
6C = 10A
5C+ (3/5)C = 100
(28/5)C = 100
C = 17.85
