There are two towers A and B. Their heights are 200ft and 150ft respectively and the foot of the towers are 250ft apart. Two birds on top of each tower fly down with the same speed and meet at the same instant on the ground to pick a grain. What is the distance between the foot of tower A and the grain?

Draw the figure for above problem

let the ground is DE and where the ground nut is placed is C.

NOW DC= X,CE=250-X.

NOW AD=200  BE=150

ACCORDING TO QUESTION AC=BC

AC=SQRT(200*200+X*X)

BC=SQRT(150*150+(250-X)*(250-X)

EQUALATE THEM AND FIND OUT X

(250-x)^2+200^2=x^2+150^2

500x=80000

x=160m

Answer is 160 m

Since there speed is same and time to reach the grain is also same.
Therefore there distance is different.
As s1=d1/t and s2=d2/t
since s1=s2,
therefore d1=d2
d1^2=x^2 + 200, d2^2=(250-x)^2 + 150^2
solving the eq you will get the ans. (250-x)^2+150^2=x^2+200^2
ans is 90ft

actually iam an silent member of this group ok me too going to atted the infy test on 6thaug. the answer is by phythogorous therom: let x be the dist bt tower a and grain 200^2+x^2= (250-x)^2+150^2solve this for answer.ans is 11 if is wrong pls send the corret solution.

suppose the diatance from tower A is x

so from tower B its dis is 250-x

so dis travelled by two birds will be=

    (200)*(200)+(x*x)=(150)*(150)+(250-x)*(250-x)

    =90ft

200*200 + x*x = (250-x)*(250-x) +(150*150)
40000 + x*x = 250*250 +x*x - 2*250*x + 150*150
x*x is canceled
40000= 62500 - 500x + 22500
40000 = 85000 - 500x
500x = 85000 - 40000
500x= 45000
x= 90

Since both birds has same speed and they reach the grain at same time. This mean both cover same distance. Let x be the distance of grain from tower A. then 250-x from B. then (200)sqre+xsqre=(250-x)sqre+150sqre

After solving we get x=90 meter. i.e. 90 meter from tower A

Speed and time taken by both the birds are same, so distance(d) will be definitely the same. Let the distance between A and grain be x. By Pythagoras theorem, d^2= 200^2 + x^2 and d^2= 150^2 + (250-x)^2. Solving these, we get x=90 Ft.
