When to use local filter and when to use global Filter?

think this should be in the Reporter Forum but, a local filter would apply to just                     a single block (table, cross tab or chart) within your report.

a global filter would apply to all blocks in your report, so if you had many tables the filter would apply to all of them

A Report Filter hides the data which you are not interested to view in the
document. There are two types of Report Filters.

Block Report Filter:
It applies to only one block in the Report. A Report
can contain any number of blocks.

Global Report Filter: It applies to all blocks in the Report.

It can be still stated as "if you want to hide only a  single block in the report, which consists of many you can go for the local filter if you want to  filter many blocks of a report you can go for the Global filter.

Thanks

In BO Reporting we do have Data Providers for each block of output. One report can have multiple Data Providers. And even you can join common fields from different Data Providers.

Local filters are applicable to a specific Data Provider. Global Filters are applicable to all Data Providers in a given Report.

In the report if you have more than one bock which having one common column and if you want to apply filter for all the blocks then go for global filters.

If you want to apply the filter for a particular block then go for local filter(or) block specific filter.

Both local filter and global filter apply at report level. Both these filters will hide the data which is not required in report.
Local Filter: local filter can only apply for one particular block or table.
Global Filter: Global filter can apply on whole report, say if we have multiple tables or blocks in the report.

Block Filter is applied when you just want to show Chart/table with some restricted dim values. For example in a table you just want to show the number of support incidents resolved in time. But in the chart you will show all the incidents raised vs resolved in time incidents then you will go for Block filter that will just restrict the table data.
Now you have a report where you are showing global data but user wants to see data only for Country India only then report filter is applied and all the report blocks will be filtered on India.

Local filters are applicable within the block whereas the Global filters are applied outside the block. Using global filter restrict the data set within the whole block in the report
