given sum of money compounds thrice in a year so

3p=p(1+r/100)^3    here n=3

(1+r/100)^3=3    (EQU 1)


then in how many years it becomes 9 times

9p=p(1+r/100)^n

3^2=(1+r/100)^n

from EQU 1

3=(1+r/100)

{(1+r/100)^3}^2=(1+r/100)^n

so n=6

Let the amount be x
For 3 years, amount = 3x
For 6 years, amount = 3*3x =9x
Hence 6 is the answer.
