What is Bug Tracking Database? And Why do we need it?
The area where we keep the record of all the Bug or Defect that arised out of Testing is known as Bug Tracking Database.
All the Software Application under Test needs the Bug Tracking Database. In the Testing process the application is tested by writing the Test Cases. Test cases are written from the Specification document or requirement document or from the Use case. When these test cases are executed the result of it may either be Pass or Fail. For the failed test cases a new Defect should be logged inorder for the Development team to fixed. There may be a lot of Defects that will be raised for an application under Test. Unless and until these Defects are tracked the application can not of quality, as these bug will remain in the system.
The Bug tracker which keeps track of these Defects will have the status of Defect, the people whom the defect is assigned to, the nature of the Defect, the description of the defect, the module which was impacted by the defect, severity, priority, etc., Defect has various stages such as New, Open, Fixed, Reopen, and Rejected or Closed. Even the Defect is also closed it will remain the database for future reference.
Bug Tracking is supported by most of the Test Management Tools such as Test Director, Quality Center etc., Some of the companies may use Excel as the Bug Tracking Database, but it is very hard to maintain the records.
Another effective tool for bug tracking is Jira(Atlassian)
