Re: Data integrity
Hi Sri,
Following points will emphasize why the data integrity should be given focus.
Data integrity means
1. Ensuring that the data are "whole" or complete,
2. The condition in which data are identically maintained during any operation (such as transfer, storage or retrieval),
3. The preservation of data for their intended use, or, relative to specified operations,
4. A prior expectation of data quality.
In simple words, data integrity is the assurance that data is consistent and correct.
Data integrity is ensured by the use of a number referred to as a message integrity code (MIC) or message authentication code (MAC).
In cryptography and information security integrity refers to the validity of data. Integrity can be compromised through:
a. Malicious altering, such as an attacker altering an account number in a bank transaction, or forgery of an identity document
b. Accidental altering, such as a transmission error, or a hard disk crash
