    Re: Testing Basic

Product based company makes the product for itself. They have no any external client, they have their customer, they sale their product open.Like nortan antivirus, Microsoft windows etc.
Service based company makes the product for their client, they have external client and give services to them about the product.Like a special project deal with a company by some client.

Let me modify your question little bit. It would be more appropriate to ask-"What is the difference between a project and product?............"

Well, a PRODUCT is something which is developed for Global clients. Means, there is no specific clients. Any Client may purchase it.

In such case, a Product based company gathers requirements from market through surveys, Questionnaires etc. and analyzed with experts. Accordingly product is launched into the open market.

Whereas a Service based company runs a PROJECT for the specific client. The requirements are gathered from the client and analyzed with the client. After the development of the application is complete. It is shipped to that particular client.

I hope the definition was helpful,

I agree with Alankar... the question will be fair you ask the difference between product and project... However, here is my explanation for product and process.

Process: is the series of step to accomplish a given task..
Eg; Task: Creating an email account
Process: Enter first name, last name, email-id, password, etc.,

Product: is a software developed with an intention to provide the same to a category of people in the market in general.

    In generally,
Process is step by step or series of step to accomplish a given task
Product is any thing that is ready to use

And regarding a product based company and a service based company is well describe by all as above
