About changing the career

I m 30 yrs old guy. Now i willing to make a place in software developement. I m going for SCJP certification. Will it be helpful to get start my career. Besides this will it be any hinderence that i had not been in the computer field (any programming , networking). I am willing to work hard. Do any body have any good suggestion which work my way.

Only doing some certification is not enough. Do you have the minimum required qualification for any job ? Since you don't have any prior experience in the field ,it might be bit tough for you.
