    Re: Testing Terms

    Hi,

Defect Age is defined in short as the span of time for a which a Defect remains in one particular state - Say OPEN.

Actually defined, Defect Age : Defect Age is the time between when the Defect got Introduced to the time Defect was detected or Fixed.

Since in Testing terms we do not know when a defect got introduced into the system, we calculate the duration between Defect Open to Defect fixed stage.

    It is calculated as :

    Summation(DefectFixed - DefectDetected)
    _____________________________________
    Number of Defects

I have heard of Project or Product Spoilage but not of Defect Spoilage till date. Hope so Sridhar Answers this....

    Cheers.....

Defect Age is the term which refers the life time / life span of
the Defect in a system. Defect ageing may refers to the
    1. number of days the defect exists in the system,
    2. number of days the defect is in open stage or in reopen stage
    3. number of days the defect is in fixed stage.
    4. Different stages of the Defect
Defect ageing is calculated to estimate the time line needed for the Defect to be validated and closed. Longer the Defect prevails in the systems the lesser will be the stability of the system.

I too dont have more idea about Defect spoilage but below are some of the factors which I know. If there are any members who have more details can provide more inputs on this regard...

Defect spoilage refers to the factors such as environment variable, hardware configuration, database connectivity etc., that are preventing the testers to detect the defect. Lower values for the Defect spoilage indicates more effective defect discovery processes and higher values indicates the reverse side.
