Is null an object in java ?

Is null an object in java ? was asked in this interview today. I am sure it is not but not able to find a decent document online regarding the same.

Sudeep,
null is not a keyword and not a reserved word in java. It is just literal. A literal is just like a final variable.i mean a constant.Literals represents numerical,character,boolean or string values.
