    Mandatory test management tool

Is it mandatory to have a test management tool while implementing QTP in an organisation? and also wanted to ask if anybody had an idea, as to how much would be a license to implement QTP in an organisation.

    hi Guest,

It is not at all mandatory to have a test Management tool implemented when implementing QTP as a Functional automation tool.
QTP result files and Log files can be used as a Reporting medium for the tests executed. We could also import result files into HTML format to make it more user-friendly.

We Generally use QTP with a Test Management tool since it facilitates lots f things. It acts as a repository for your stored scripts. Results of execution are updated and it becomes easier to understand the overall status of Regression suite as to what is the percentage of Pass / Fail.

Also in Test Management tools like QC since Defect Management is also incorporated, we could have a track of the defects logged against the scripts executed.

As regards Licensing costs, send a mail to Mercury Support. They would much better details rather than any of us here :-)

    Cheers...
